When Creativity Collides With Fashion

I'm excited to share with you today's blog. I've created a category within my page called Enterpreneurs, where I will be exhibiting small business entepreneurers as guest bloggers. They will talk about their product or service, their successes and failures. And most importantly, they will inspire and encourage us to pursue our personal goals and dreams in life.

Today, I want to begin with a talented friend of mine who owns her personal business, Sarahi's Designs. Her tagline is "When creativity collides with fashion" and her story is so uplifting and will make you want to jump off your seat and do something if you're not doing anything yet. Below is my blog interview with her.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Sarahi Perez. I was born in Mexico and raised in Arizona. I'm a young bride, I got married at the age of 18 to Dennis, the love of my life. We've been married for five years now and we have two boys, Eliseo and Nejemiah. Although, I am a young wife and mother, I have always had a love for fashion and the way I express my personality the best is through my clothing and jewelry.

2. How did Sarahi's Designs begin? And what inspires you to create?

I love DIYs and actually find serenity in allowing my creative juices to take control in a project. For the past couple of years, I've been making my own clothing. I also love to restore old pieces, whether it's clothing or everyday items. I find joy in bring things back to its original beauty, along with adding a touch of my personal taste. Sarahi's Designs was birth out of a desire to obtain items or articles of clothing that were to my liking but without hurting my pockets. As a wife and mother, I try my best to live a very budget-friendly lifestyle while still being in style. And the only way I saw it possible was by creating custom-made items for myself. Over time, I began making things for close friends and family, until now- where I have made it available for everyone.

3. What sets you and your business apart from others that may be doing the same thing?

I love to do what I do and I'm passionate about it. As a believer, my faith in God is very important and it is what keeps me grounded. Faith and Fashion can go hand-in-hand when God is the center of your life. Integrity is vital, especially in the field of fashion and I take pride in what I do and how I do it. When I work on a piece, I put a lot of thought into it and work hard to make my customers happy, without having them overspend.

I originally started creating my own chokers out of need. When shopping, I never saw anything that was appealing to me. As a Christian, many chokers that were on display were either too gaudy and dark and it just didn't sit well with my spirit. We are called to be the light, just as Jesus is and personally, a lot of the items out there were not suitable for me. So, I began creating chokers that were more in-tune to my style and liking. I've also expanded to creating custom-made chokers to the liking of my customers as well, because its important for me to have them feel good about what they wear.

4. What has been one of the toughest thing you have had to overcome in order to become successful?

For the most part, it has been FEAR. Fear had been holding me back for years and it really took for me to make a decision to confront and conquer my fears. I've always been scared to put myself out there. There has been moments where I've felt like my work wasn't good enough and honestly, that was something that I have struggled with. It took a long time for me to get over it and realize that fear is there to stop you from accomplishing great things in life.

God has been speaking to me for a while and I decided to pay attention and listen. He has called me to do bigger and greater things and has promised to be with me along the way. And I had to come to terms with that fact that as long as I continue to allow fear and negative thoughts to occupy my space, it would continue to keep me captive and hinder my growth. I am determined to believe in God's Word over my life and in accomplishing every dream that I have set out to reach.

5. What message can you tell young women like yourself that aspire to create, or start a business like yourself?

In today's generation, #goals are trending. In its popularity, one would think that people do really have goals set out for themselves, but those goals are not fulfilling because they are not real. We get so caught up in the social media hype and in the Hollywood lifestyle that we lose sight of who we are. Sometimes we aspire to be like certain celebrities instead of aspiring to become who God has called us to be.

I wholeheartedly encourage young women go after their goals, to dream big and do what they love to do. Ladies, never try to be like someone else is, you are wonderfully and fearfully made. You were created for greatness and to fulfill your God-given purpose. If baking, cooking, sewing, writing, designing or creating is in you, then do it! Do what you love with LOVE and you will see it flourish.
